How the test works

How Dataships tests actually run

Two consent apps on one live store sounds impossible. It is three steps, and nothing is removed until you have the numbers.

01

Install Dataships alongside your current setup.

A 10 minute chat and a 5 minute install. No dev work, nothing removed yet.

02

We split your traffic and run both live.

Same store, same period, same shoppers. Every consent decision is recorded on both sides.

03

You keep whichever wins.

You see marketing consent rate, net-new contacts and incremental revenue for each side, then decide.

On incrementality: contacts that would have subscribed anyway are excluded from the incremental count. Both sides see the same shoppers, so anyone who opts in under either flow cancels out and only the difference is counted. Read the full methodology

Why brands choose Dataships

Five things a checkout script cannot do

Your current soution is likely one consent checkbox at checkout. Dataships is the platform behind the checkbox, and that difference shows up in every row of the comparison below.

An engine, not an app block.

Every record and decision passes hundreds of compliance checks off-site before it reaches your marketing platform.

Compliance coverage that is actually complete.

Translations, consent memory, offer customization and compliance-enforced customization all ship today.

Reporting on landed revenue.

Dozens of metrics, plus actuals measured against forecast rather than estimates.

Optimization levers beyond region.

Multivariate testing, holdout groups, sequenced consent asks and per-surface language.

A team behind it.

35 people, 12 engineers, 4 in customer success, in-house legal specialists, SOC 2 Type II and errors and omissions insurance.

Head-to-head

16 of 16, against 4 of 16

The risk you carry today

A shopper who opted out gets re-subscribed at their next checkout

Shoptin applies implied consent at checkout. A shopper who unsubscribed and then buys again is treated as a fresh opt-in and starts receiving email again, without ever opting back in. Observed on live Shoptin stores in September 2026.

$50K

Maximum CAN-SPAM fine per violation

Re-subscribing a shopper who opted out breaks even the most lenient laws, including US CAN-SPAM.

It also annoys customers, and they spam-report you, which costs deliverability for the whole list.

You are never non-compliant: markets outside your plan default to compliance-first.

Optimization is what you buy, compliance is what you always get. Every market you sell into is covered by the consent rules engine, maintained by certified privacy professionals across 144+ jurisdictions, with audit-ready records throughout.

Price match and switching

Switching costs you nothing

If you are under contract with Shoptin, the contract is our problem for the length of the test, not yours.

01

Uninstall Shoptin, install Dataships.

A 10 minute chat and a 5 minute install. Five minutes, start to finish.

02

We price match or buy out your contract.

For three months while we test and measure. You lose nothing other than the five minutes it takes to install us.

03

We check in and agree the go-forward plan.

From the pricing above. We work with every merchant to keep pricing fair, transparent and mutually beneficial.

If you love it, stay.

We have won your trust the only way that counts, on measured results.

If you don't, we shake hands.

No value in paying for it? We part ways. No lock-in, no theatre.

Price match and contract buy-out available to Shoptin customers through the end of 2026.

Questions we get asked

Before you submit

Is the uplift genuinely incremental, or would those people have subscribed anyway?

It is measured, not estimated. In a head-to-head test both sides see the same shoppers over the same period, so anyone who would have subscribed under either flow shows up on both sides at the same rate and cancels out. The incremental count is the difference between the two sides, and contacts that would have subscribed anyway are excluded from it. Every record behind the number is timestamped, so you can audit it yourself. Read the full methodology

What happens to the consent records Shoptin already collected?

They stay in your marketing platform. Nothing is deleted and nothing is re-asked. Dataships records consent from install day forward, and every new record carries the exact language shown, the region rules applied and a timestamp, so audited records are easy to tell apart from the ones you inherited.

Do we need developer time?

No. A 10 minute chat and a 5 minute install. Dataships runs as an off-site engine connected to Shopify checkout. Nothing in your theme changes, and nothing is removed until you decide to keep the winner.

We only sell in the US. Does any of this apply to us?

Yes. The re-subscribe failure above is a CAN-SPAM issue, not a GDPR one. CAN-SPAM carries fines of up to $50K per violation, and emailing a shopper who opted out because their next checkout counted as a new opt-in is exactly that violation. US-only brands also ship to Canadian, UK and EU shoppers more often than they expect, and those orders carry those rules.

What exactly does the price match cover, and what happens after three months?

For Shoptin customers we match your current Shoptin contract, or buy it out, for three months while the test runs. After three months we check in with the numbers and agree the go-forward plan from the pricing above, starting at $350 a month. No automatic upgrade and no lock-in.

What if we sell into more markets than our plan covers?

You are never non-compliant. Markets outside your plan default to compliance-first: the consent rules engine still applies the right rules in every market you sell into, you just are not optimizing there yet. Optimization is what you buy, compliance is what you always get.

Can you show us the Shoptin issues on our own store?

Yes. Put your store URL in the form and we will walk through your current checkout consent flow on the call, region by region, before anything is installed.
